Devynn approached me earlier this year wanting to shoot something fun for her modeling portfolio. After giving it some thought, I decided she would be my roller-girl.
Something you should know….I’ve wanted to do a roller-girl shoot forever! Ever since watching Boogie Nights I’ve been inspired by Heather Graham with the short-shorts and rollerskates.
Once Devynn agreed to the theme, I just HAD to recruit Carrie Tibbs of Beauty Marked for makeup. Then came the task of hunting down the wardrobe, including the vintage rollerskates.
Something else you should know about me, I’m a sucker for hunting down random wardrobe items for my shoots. I like everything to be perfect and I knew exactly where I had to go to get the job done: There’s a store downtown Kitchener called Out of the Past. This store has always come through for me. When I needed a blue tutu, they had it. When I needed a vintage top and stripped tube socks, they had it. So when I went down there looking for vintage rollerskates, they took down my name and within 24 hours I got a phone call saying they found a pair and they’re waiting for me. Like I said, they get the job done! They also support local artists/photographers with occassional discounts.
Also, the orange chair was purchased at a garage sale for $10 last year…yes, it’s been hidden away in my garage for that long…
Are these rollerskates not awesome!?!?
Now on to the lovely Devynn:
I love this vintage black and white moment:
I also love these sexy headshots:
After our shoot indoors and quick wardrobe change, we braved the rain and headed outdoors to capture these:
